My Spring Party

Hey cake loves!!

In the last post I talked about some Spring party ideas in preparations for my mom's birthday celebration. Well, I've got pictures to share as promised!!

We all had so much fun. Just a small group of us as usual, but everything was amazing. So let's get into it.

I had been looking everywhere for these cute pom pom decorations but couldn't find the color scheme  that I was looking for. Not to mention, for the price of one pom pom, I could make five! After reading a few Amazon reviews for name brand pom poms, it was apparent that everyone felt as if they were a waste of money and could have easily been made at home. Us Cakenista's are a crafty bunch, so I went to the gift section of the dollar store and picked out a few packs of tissue paper in yellow, white, blue and pink. I also picked up some pink streamers. All you need to create these poms are a pair of scissors, some fishing line (yes I had two fishing rods in my closet) and some tissue paper. I did make a video on how I made these which is posted on the new Marisha's Couture YouTube channel and below. More info to come of that shortly.

I tweaked the menu a little bit because we ended up having the party a week early so I was a bit short of time. I needed to make foods that were both quick to make and could be cooked long and slow while I did other things.

I finished the cake the morning of the party and managed to film it. I'm not sure how good the video will be, I haven't actually started the editing process yet. But here's a little secret. I'm going to be releasing a Lemon Strawberry Sponge Cake video soon. In the video, the cake is finished off with a little buttercream, fresh strawberries and fresh flowers. As soon as I finished filming, I scraped the toppings off and turned that lemon strawberry cake into the bottom tier of my mom's birthday cake, which as you can see is a completely different design. #CakeMagic

Jumbo Cocktail Shrimp
Crab Cakes (Not measured: egg, breadcrumbs, mayo, hot sauce, salt, pepper, garlic powder, old bay)
Short Ribs w/ Peppers and Onions (made a rub with brown sugar and spices, and slow cooked the meat for 7 hours )
Teriyaki Wings (soy sauce, ginger, garlic, red pepper flakes, brown sugar. slow cooked 2 hours)
Sauteed Asparagus (with plenty of pepper and garlic)
Mac N Cheese (sharp cheddar and colby added to warm seasoned buttermilk. combined w/ mac and baked).

Then of course, the classic, cake and ice cream

I pulled out the karaoke machine as promised and we had a lot of fun taking turns singing happy birthday and just being silly. Everyone starting going through old family photos and as the day died down I was able to cut the cake and disperse it into take out containers for everyone to take home.

The best part of it all, watching my family enjoy themselves and seeing the smile on my mommy's face. #MommasGirl
